Harden also ventured into the theater, and in 1993, she debuted on Broadway. At this early stage of her career, Harden still worked as a caterer to bring in an income. She followed this in 1988 with an appearance on Simon & Simon. In 1987, Harden made her television debut in an episode of CBS Summer Playhouse. In 1988, she graduated with her master's degree in fine arts. Harden then studied at New York University, at the Tisch School of the Arts. She graduated in 1980 with her degree in theatre. She graduated in 1976, and she then enrolled at the University of Texas. Harden studied at Surrattsville High School, situated in Maryland. Harden's father was a Naval officer, and she had four siblings. She was born in La Jolla, California, in the United States. Marcia Gay Harden was born 14th August 1959, to Thad and Beverly Harden.
